FA Cup Perliminary Round - Almondsbury UWE v Wotton Bassett
Almondsbury 'excited' by Cup run
ALMONDSBURY UWE, the lowest ranked team from the Bristol area left in the FA Cup, host Wotton Bassett Town Saturday 28th @ the Field Almondsbury 3pm kick off.
Manager David Hillier regularly reached the latter stages of the competition with Arsenal before finishing his playing career at Bristol Rovers.
He could be forgiven for being less than enthralled by the Preliminary Round, but insists he is excited for his young side, which held Toolstation First Division favorites’ Merthyr Town to a 2-2 draw in midweek thanks to two goals from Wayne Pearce.
"The cup gets the lads excited because it's the only time they get any money," said Hillier, who also played for Portsmouth.
"The club have been really good in giving the prize money back to the players because we haven't got a budget and, after the performance in the last round, the lads think they can go for a few rounds."
UWE are yet to win a league game this term but Hillier said: "We have played 10 halves of football and we have played six good halves, but we haven't put them all together.
"I am happy with 60 per cent of the performances but the results could have been better."
